The government is continuing its investment in Guyana’s future by expanding the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education and robotics programme, which has now been officially launched in Region Three.

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport on Sunday hosted a workshop and sign-up event in Leonora, drawing crowds of enthusiastic youth eager to dive into the worlds of technology and engineering.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr. reaffirmed the government’s commitment to equipping young Guyanese with the modern tech skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving global economy.

Speaking at the event, he emphasised that STEM and robotics programs are crucial for fostering critical thinking, teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity in the next generation.

“The opportunities that the government is creating for you are bigger than ever before, and you get an opportunity here to experience what this field is like,” he said.

This initiative drives the government’s efforts to expand access to innovation-based learning, ensuring all young people have an equal opportunity to develop these essential skills, regardless of their location.

The minister added that the training will continue through October 2026, and trainers will be deployed to conduct sessions in various locations.

“You will have trainers coming to specific areas if it’s not within your community, and we will help to get you to the location so that you can be trained in this area of robotics,” he stated.

During the workshop, participants engaged in hands-on activities, including coding fundamentals and an introduction to robotics construction, in a highly interactive learning environment.

The high turnout highlighted a growing interest in STEM-related fields and demonstrated the potential for these programmes to inspire the next generation of Guyanese innovators.

As Guyana continues its rapid digital transformation, the government remains committed to providing training opportunities that drive innovation and contribute directly to national development.
