Residents of River’s View in Region 10 are set to benefit from enhanced sporting and recreational opportunities through the construction of a new multipurpose sports facility and the completion of a community pavilion.

Toshao Gregory Williams told the Department of Public Information(DPI) on Monday that the multipurpose sports facility was conceived to address a longstanding challenge faced by the community when hosting sporting events.
The two-storey facility is being constructed at a cost of approximately $20 million, with funding from a $10 million Presidential Grant and $10 million from the village’s LCDS allocation.
“When we would invite teams from other villages to participate in games, we did not have a place to host them overnight,” Toshao Williams explained.
When completed, the building will feature male and female changing rooms, bathrooms, a kitchen, dining area and conference space. It will also serve as accommodation for visiting athletes and teams.
According to the toshao, the project is about 75 per cent complete. He noted that the facility will also create economic opportunities for residents by attracting more visitors to the community.

“The more persons we have coming to the community, visitors and players from different teams, it will boost our economy through selling and transportation services. That is how we see it benefitting our community,” he stated.
Meanwhile, residents are already benefitting from a newly completed pavilion at the community ground.
Before its construction, there was limited seating and shelter for spectators attending sporting activities and community events.

“There was no proper place for people to sit and watch games or gather in the evenings. Now residents, visitors and youths have a comfortable place to sit and shelter from the sun and rain,” the toshao explained.
The pavilion is being used during games, fun days and other community activities and has received positive feedback from residents.
