Residents across Region Seven are expected to benefit from expanded healthcare services as the government continues efforts to improve access to specialised care and reduce the need to travel to Georgetown for medical attention.
The update was provided by Regional Executive Officer (REO), Dr Josh Kanhai, during his appearance on the Starting Point Podcast on Sunday, where he highlighted ongoing investments to strengthen healthcare delivery across the region.

Dr Kanhai revealed that the expansion of services at the Bartica Regional Hospital has already improved access for residents, with diagnostic services and specialist care now available closer to home.
The availability of services such as X-rays and specialist consultations means residents no longer have to travel to Georgetown for certain medical needs.
He pointed to progress on the new Bartica Hospital project, which he said will further enhance healthcare delivery.
The government is also strengthening healthcare access in remote communities through telemedicine and upgrades to health facilities across the region.
Dental services are among the areas being expanded, with new dental chairs being installed in communities, including Upper Mazaruni and plans to extend services to other riverine areas.

The REO said improving healthcare access in hinterland communities remains a key priority, particularly for residents who previously faced challenges travelling long distances to get specialised services.
Dr Kanhai also highlighted broader development plans for Region Seven, including infrastructure improvements, education support, water access projects and community development initiatives.
He said that strengthening systems, improving accountability and involving communities in monitoring projects will remain central to ensuring value for money and effective delivery.
Dr Kanhai said the administration’s focus is on creating a more connected region where residents can access essential services closer to their communities while benefitting from continued development.
