Following severe winds and heavy rainfall, President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali is leading a senior inter-agency government team to Region Two to assess the damage and commence support work for affected communities and agencies.

According to President Ali via a statement on his official social media page, initial reports suggest that in excess of 100 homes, public buildings and other facilities were “severely to moderately” affected in the region.

A full-scale assessment is currently underway. Initial support is aimed at providing temporary roofing with tarpaulins and restoring critical infrastructure.

The head of state said the region is experiencing major power disruptions, which are being restored.

He also added that measures are already in place to provide temporary shelters should they be needed.

President Ali is joined by Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Mandanlall Ramraj, Director General of the Civil Defence Commission, Colonel (Retired) Nazrul Hussain, senior officials of the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Defence Force.
