PCB Readies Attack On Suryakumar Yadav Over Pahalgam Tribute, May Complain To ICC: Sources

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly preparing to raise a formal objection against Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav after his recent social media tribute to Pahalgam sparked controversy. According to sources, PCB is considering filing a complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC), alleging that Yadav’s post blurred the lines between sports and political messaging.

The star Indian batter, who is currently one of the most consistent performers in white-ball cricket, shared a tribute on his official account referencing Pahalgam, a picturesque region in Jammu and Kashmir. While Indian fans largely viewed it as a patriotic and emotional gesture, voices from across the border accused him of politicizing cricket.

PCB sources have hinted that they see this as a violation of the ICC’s code, which discourages players from making political statements or using cricket as a platform for nationalistic endorsements. “We are evaluating the matter. Cricket should remain above politics, and any attempt to mix the two is a breach of ICC’s guidelines,” a PCB insider reportedly stated.

This development comes at a time when Indo-Pak cricket relations remain strained, with bilateral series suspended for years and matches limited to ICC tournaments and Asia Cup fixtures. The PCB has previously raised objections against Indian players for wearing military-themed insignia or making symbolic gestures that it deemed political in nature.

On the Indian side, cricket analysts argue that Suryakumar’s tribute was a personal expression of respect and pride, not a political statement. Fans have rallied behind the cricketer, with hashtags supporting him trending on social media.

Whether the PCB will follow through with a formal ICC complaint remains to be seen. Historically, such moves have not yielded significant disciplinary action, but they often escalate tensions ahead of marquee clashes between the two sides.

For now, Suryakumar Yadav has not issued any clarification on the matter, while the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has maintained silence.

As India and Pakistan gear up for their next ICC tournament encounter, the controversy ensures that the off-field drama will be as closely watched as the on-field action.
