The PPP/C government has intensified its push to transform hinterland healthcare delivery, with the distribution of a new fleet of vehicles to improve access to medical services in remote communities.
Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony recently handed over approximately 13 all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), four utility vehicles (XUVs), and seven motorcycles to health authorities in Regions One, Seven, Eight and Nine.
The vehicles will help hospitals and health centres provide outreach services, making it easier for healthcare workers to reach remote villages and for patients to get timely medical care.

Dr Anthony said the investment is yet another demonstration of the government’s broader agenda to strengthen healthcare systems in hinterland and riverine communities, where transportation challenges have traditionally hindered service delivery.
Over the past several years, the PPP/C administration has made significant strides to expand healthcare across Guyana’s hinterland regions.
These investments include the construction, rehabilitation and expansion of health centres and district hospitals, the deployment of telemedicine services, the training of community health workers, and the rollout of upgraded diagnostic and emergency response capabilities in remote areas.
The government has also increased the supply of medical equipment, pharmaceuticals and ambulances to hinterland communities while expanding internet connectivity to support digital healthcare services and remote consultations.

In Regions One, Seven, Eight and Nine, residents are already benefitting from improved maternal and child healthcare services, enhanced vaccination programmes, specialist outreach clinics and expanded medical outreach operations.
The Ministry of Health said the new fleet of vehicles will further strengthen these efforts by ensuring healthcare personnel can travel more safely and efficiently to communities in need, especially during emergencies and routine outreach exercises.
The initiative underscores the government’s continued commitment to ensuring equitable healthcare access for all Guyanese, regardless of geographic location.
