In a significant move to protect air passengers, the Centre has directed IndiGo to immediately clear all pending refunds arising from recent large-scale flight cancellations. The government’s intervention comes after thousands of travellers reported last-minute cancellations, delays, and difficulties in securing timely refunds from the airline. Officials stated that IndiGo must streamline its refund mechanism, ensuring customers receive their money without unnecessary delays. Alongside this directive, the Centre has also imposed fare caps on affected routes to prevent sudden price surges caused by reduced flight availability. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has asked IndiGo to submit a detailed compliance report, while also warning that airlines must maintain transparency, operational discipline, and passenger-friendly policies. The move aims to stabilise the aviation sector and restore passenger confidence amid rising concerns over service disruptions.
