President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali reaffirmed Guyana’s commitment to its friendship and strategic partnership with the United States of America at the United States’ 250th Independence Anniversary celebrations on Thursday evening.

Addressing those present during the celebration, the president said the partnership between Guyana and the US is stronger than ever.

He praised the efforts of US Ambassador to Guyana Nicole Theriot and diplomatic teams from both countries.

The president underscored the years of quiet engagement that helped to build trust and lay the foundation for an even closer relationship.

“Our diplomacy is at its strongest, and make no mistake, our joint commitment to international peace, international order, democracy, and the rule of law is at its strongest,” the head of state said.

He added that the relationship was rooted in shared values rather than convenience.

He said, “As Guyana stands alongside our American friends in this jubilee, we do so with a profound sense of partnership. The relationship between our two nations is not one of convenience, but of conviction.”

Pointing to the long partnership and growing US investment in Guyana, President Ali said Guyana’s health system was undergoing significant transformation through partnerships with US institutions, including Northwell Health and Mount Sinai, with reforms extending beyond infrastructure to technology, regulation, training and emergency medical services.

“Our entire emergency medical system is being reorganised and rebuilt…not for today’s standards, but for what will be required by tomorrow’s standards,” President Ali said.

He said the countries shared a responsibility to protect future generations, strengthen regional security, and safeguard economic development.

The head of state welcomed increased investment from the United States through private sector and government partnerships, emphasising that the two countries are committed to building on their long-term relationship focused on peace, security and shared prosperity.
