Guyana has further expanded its diplomatic engagement with Sri Lanka following the formal accreditation of High Commissioner Dharamkumar Seeraj as Guyana’s Non-Resident High Commissioner to the island nation.

Seeraj presented his Letter of Credence to Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Monday, August 25, officially assuming responsibility for representing Guyana’s interests in Sri Lanka, alongside his existing diplomatic duties in India.

Following the presentation, Seeraj underscored Guyana’s interest in building on the longstanding relationship between the two countries and in promoting greater collaboration across areas of shared importance.

Guyana and Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations on 14 July 1974. Over the decades, the two nations have maintained friendly relations and co-operated on matters of mutual interest.

Seeraj’s expanded accreditation is expected to provide another avenue for strengthening communication between Georgetown and Colombo and to create opportunities for increased bilateral collaboration.

Based in New Delhi, Seeraj currently serves as Guyana’s High Commissioner to India. His appointment as Non-Resident High Commissioner to Sri Lanka means he will now carry out diplomatic responsibilities in both countries, thereby reinforcing Guyana’s broader efforts to strengthen its international partnerships.
