The government has commenced the third phase of the National Cash Grant Initiative, allowing eligible Guyanese without bank accounts or those who prefer cheque payments to access their grants.

Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr Ashni Singh, disclosed on Wednesday that persons who select the cheque option through the cash grant portal will be contacted once their payments are processed and advised where and when they can uplift their cheques.

“Once we have cut those checks, we will be distributing them to several locations countrywide,” Minister Singh said.

He explained that applicants will be able to track the status of their registration through the cash grant portal, where they will be notified when their cheque is ready for collection.

Additionally, teams will contact recipients using the telephone numbers provided during registration.

The cheque payment phase follows the successful rollout of direct deposits and outreach exercises for persons in remote communities and shut-ins.

To date, 470,420 cash grants have been processed, representing $47 billion injected into the disposable incomes of Guyanese citizens.

Minister Singh also encouraged recipients who collect their grants by cheque to open bank accounts, noting that financial inclusion will allow them easier access to banking services and future government programmes.

“Even if you have chosen in this instance to receive your cash grant by way of a check, I want to emphasise to you that President Ali and his government would still like you to access the formal banking system by way of opening a bank account,” he said.

Persons wishing to receive their cash grant by cheque can register through the official portal at cashgrant.gov.gy.
