Germany announced themselves as serious contenders for the FIFA World Cup 2026 with a commanding 7-1 victory over tournament debutants Curaçao in their Group E opener. The match, played before a packed crowd, showcased Germany’s attacking depth and determination to re-establish themselves among football’s elite.

The Germans wasted no time in taking control of the contest. Felix Nmecha etched his name into World Cup history by scoring one of the fastest goals of the tournament, giving Germany an early lead. Although Curaçao briefly stunned the favorites by finding an equalizer through Livano Comenencia, Germany quickly regained momentum and never looked back.

Kai Havertz played a pivotal role in the victory, scoring twice and constantly troubling the Curaçao defense. Additional goals from Nico Schlotterbeck, Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown, and Deniz Undav completed the rout. Germany’s fluid attacking football and relentless pressure left Curaçao struggling to contain the European giants.

The match was also significant for veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who became the oldest player to represent Germany at a major international tournament. His experience and leadership provided stability as Germany comfortably secured all three points.

For Curaçao, despite the heavy defeat, the occasion marked a historic milestone. The Caribbean nation became one of the smallest countries ever to participate in a FIFA World Cup and celebrated its first-ever goal on football’s biggest stage. While the result was disappointing, the experience will remain a proud chapter in the nation’s sporting history.

Germany’s emphatic victory places them at the top of Group E and sends a strong warning to their upcoming opponents as they pursue their fifth World Cup title.
