England Beat Ireland by Four Wickets Despite Injury Blow to Nat Sciver-Brunt

England continued their impressive start to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 with a four-wicket victory over Ireland in Southampton, although the win was overshadowed by an injury to captain Nat Sciver-Brunt.

Ireland batted first after England elected to field and managed 118/9 in their allotted 20 overs. England’s bowlers maintained excellent discipline throughout the innings, with Sophie Ecclestone producing a Player of the Match performance by taking three wickets while conceding just 22 runs.

England’s chase was far from straightforward. Early wickets gave Ireland hope before Sciver-Brunt steadied the innings with a composed 48. However, she was forced to retire hurt due to calf tightness, creating concern for the hosts.

Despite the setback, England’s middle and lower order calmly guided the team home in 17.3 overs to secure their second consecutive tournament victory.

Subsequent medical scans confirmed that Sciver-Brunt would miss England’s next two group-stage matches because of a calf strain, making her fitness a major talking point as the tournament progresses.
