The Ministry of Education is pressing ahead with its ambitious education infrastructure agenda, issuing a new invitation for bids for construction and rehabilitation works at five educational institutions across Guyana.
The projects include the construction of laboratories at Block C of Micobie Secondary School, the reconstruction of Agricola Primary School, and the construction of floors to include classrooms above the workshop at Essequibo Technical Institute.
Additionally, the bid includes the reconstruction of Kingston Secondary School and the reconstruction of the roof of the Admin Building at Upper Corentyne Technical Institute, spanning communities from the East Coast to the Essequibo Coast and the Corentyne.

The latest bid forms part of a sweeping national education investment drive by the People’s Progressive Party Civic’s (PPP/C) Administration.
Since returning to office, the government has constructed 66 nursery schools, 34 primary schools and 33 secondary schools, while advancing major rehabilitation and expansion works at 45 nursery schools, 61 primary schools and 32 secondary schools.
In the 2026 National Budget, $183.6 billion has been set aside to support continued investments in school infrastructure, teachers’ development, learning resources and skills training. Of that, $24.3 billion is allocated specifically for school infrastructure, including the completion of more than 40 schools, with a strong focus on hinterland and riverine communities.
The investments are also yielding results.
Guyana has already achieved universal access to primary education and is on track to realise universal access to secondary education in 2026, with the completion of several key school projects.
Students, teachers, and communities are the primary beneficiaries. Works at institutions such as Micobie Secondary, serving interior Region Eight and Upper Corentyne Technical Institute, directly expanding access to quality learning environments for young Guyanese in underserved areas.
Technical institutes such as Essequibo Technical and Upper Corentyne stand to benefit hundreds of students pursuing vocational and technical pathways, as the government simultaneously expands TVET opportunities.
TVET expansion, including the Guyana Technical Training College in Port Mourant and a new centre at Mahdia, has $2.5 billion budgeted to continue training over 2,000 persons in practical skills.
