Colombia Too Strong for World Cup Debutants Uzbekistan

Colombia showcased their attacking strength with an impressive 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan in their opening FIFA World Cup 2026 fixture at the historic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

The South American side dominated possession and created numerous chances throughout the match. Leading the charge was Luis Díaz, who delivered a standout performance by scoring and creating opportunities for his teammates. Colombia’s fluid attacking play repeatedly troubled the Uzbek defence and highlighted why many observers consider them one of the tournament’s dark horses.

To their credit, Uzbekistan never stopped fighting and managed to get on the scoresheet, but the difference in experience and quality ultimately proved decisive. The World Cup newcomers showed glimpses of promise and will look to learn from the defeat as they prepare for their remaining group-stage matches.

For Colombia, the result provides a major confidence boost and strengthens their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages.
