The Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) has invited bids for the reconstruction of Taxiway Charlie and its main runway as part of ongoing efforts to modernise the country’s premier aviation gateway and accommodate growing air traffic demand.
According to a tender notice published by the Ministry of Public Utilities and Aviation, the project will be executed through the National Competitive Bidding (NCB) process in accordance with the Procurement Act 2003 and is open to all eligible contractors.

The planned works form part of a broader transformation of the airport, which is undergoing significant upgrades aimed at positioning Guyana as a regional and international aviation hub.
Among the most ambitious developments is the construction of Terminal 2, a 150,000-square-foot facility expected to be completed by 2028.
The project is being undertaken through a partnership between UK-based BHM Construction and the Manchester Airport Group, which will collaborate on the design and construction of the new terminal.
Additional enhancements include the installation of a new inline baggage handling system equipped with advanced scanners and cameras, as well as the introduction of off-site check-in services.

Moreover, interested contractors can obtain, inspect and purchase bidding documents from CJIA.
As part of the qualification requirements, bidders must submit valid compliance certificates from the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the National Insurance Scheme (NIS).
Bids submitted for the project must remain valid for 120 days from the date of opening.
Collectively, the runway, taxiway and terminal developments represent one of the largest investments in Guyana’s aviation infrastructure in recent years and underscore the country’s ambition to establish CJIA as a premier gateway connecting Guyana with the wider world.
