–aims to train 2,000 more by year-end
More than 2,200 persons have already benefitted from skills training programmes offered by the Board of Industrial Training (BIT) to date even as the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning works to expand opportunities for young Guyanese.
This is according to Minister of Labour and Manpower Planning, Keoma Griffith, who made the disclosure on Wednesday during the National Youth Skills Forum and Skills Search Expo 2026 at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC) in Liliendaal.
He noted that BIT had surpassed its initial target of training 2,000 persons for the year, while announcing that his ministry aims to train an additional 2,000 persons by the end of 2026.

Minister Griffith added that the expansion of skills training remains critical as Guyana experiences rapid economic growth, increased investment, and the emergence of new industries.
He said, “Today’s employers are looking beyond certificates. They are seeking individuals who possess technical competence, digital literacy, professionalism, integrity, teamwork, communication skills, and a strong work ethic.”

He also highlighted BIT’s growing focus on emerging sectors, including renewable energy.
Minister Griffith noted that between 2020 and 2025, the board implemented 49 green skills training projects, providing hundreds of persons with skills needed for industries such as solar photovoltaic installation, electric vehicle maintenance, and charging infrastructure.
Minister Griffith encouraged young people to take advantage of available training opportunities. He said that they should prepare themselves to participate in Guyana’s changing economy.
“The future of our country will not simply be inherited. It will be built by your skills, your determination and your ambition,” he told participants.
