Bihar election results: NDA stuns Mahagathbandhan in Muslim dominated seats; JD(U) surges

The 2025 Bihar Assembly election results have delivered a surprising political twist, with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) making unexpected gains in several Muslim-dominated constituencies—areas traditionally considered strongholds of the Mahagathbandhan. Early trends indicate that the NDA’s strategy has successfully pierced the opposition’s core voter base, showcasing a shift in ground-level sentiment. Particularly notable is the strong performance of JD(U), which has staged a remarkable comeback under Nitish Kumar’s leadership. After a relatively weaker showing in previous elections, JD(U) now appears to be leading in more seats than expected, contributing significantly to the NDA’s comfortable march past the majority mark in the 243-member Assembly.

This surge is backed by broader support from EBCs, non-Yadav OBCs, women voters, and even sections of minority communities, indicating that the NDA managed to widen its social outreach. Meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan has faced setbacks in its own bastions, especially in the Seemanchal region, as its efforts to expand beyond its Muslim-Yadav vote base seem to have fallen short. Third-front players have also failed to make a notable impact, allowing the NDA to consolidate the vote further. The results hold major political implications not only for Bihar’s governance but also for national politics, as this victory strengthens the NDA’s narrative and momentum ahead of future elections.
