Every soul in Guyana knows that two newspapers are the platforms for the APNU-AFC and their connected arms like the GTU. SN has flooded its Tuesday (Feb 6, 2024) pages with images and articles in support of what is an illegal strike. But the effort must embarrass all of them due to the ridiculous claims regarding household expenses. Two placards come to mind. One held up by Mark Lyte reads as follows – “WHY IS THERE ALWAYS MONEY FOR SUGAR WORKERS AND NOT TEACHERS.” Lyte forgets that under the APNU-AFC 7,000 sugar workers were fired. If effect there was no money for 28,000 persons from the sugar industry families. Always money? Then another placard displays what it claims are monthly expenses for teachers. The expenses add up to $256,000 per teacher. Included in these are some spectacular expenses – $50,000 monthly for clothes; $20,000 for snacks; $80,000 per child monthly expenses. Note again – $70,000 per month for clothing and snacks!
