GUYANA is stepping up efforts to expand its international tourism profile, with Tourism, Industry and Commerce Minister Susan Rodrigues set to represent the country at two major global tourism engagements in the United Kingdom and Belgium this November.
The minister’s international programme will begin at the World Travel Market (WTM), taking place from November 3 to 5 at ExCeL London, where Guyana will seek to strengthen its visibility among international travel professionals, investors and tourism industry representatives.
Speaking to the Department of Public Information (DPI) on Saturday, Rodrigues said the event presents an important opportunity to deepen Guyana’s engagement with the British tourism market while establishing new connections across the Caribbean and Latin America.
Her schedule will include discussions with UK-based travel agents, international media organisations, cruise industry representatives and delegations from other participating countries.
“We’ll be having a number of engagements with travel agents in the UK, media outlets, cruise industry leaders who will be attending the expo, and of course meeting other countries and delegations,” the minister said.
From London, Rodrigues will continue to Brussels, Belgium, on November 9, where she is expected to participate in a high-level panel discussion organised by the World Tourism Institute. The session will also feature Ghana’s Minister of Tourism and will examine the role of sustainable tourism in economic diversification, cultural preservation and attracting investment.
Rodrigues said she intends to bring the Caribbean experience into the discussion, highlighting Guyana’s approach to sustainable tourism and the opportunities emerging from its natural and cultural assets.
“I’ll be bringing the Caribbean perspective and, of course, all of the knowledge that we have in sustainable tourism here in Guyana,” she noted.
At the London exhibition, Guyana will maintain a national tourism presence through a dedicated booth featuring established local operators, including Wilderness Explorers, Iwokrama River Lodge and Research Centre, and Visit Rupununi.
The delegation will also include Guyana Tourism Authority Director Kamrul Baksh, alongside representatives of the British High Commission, providing an opportunity to strengthen institutional and commercial relationships while promoting the country’s tourism products to international audiences.
The engagements come as Guyana observes Tourism Month 2026 under the theme, “Tourism is Everybody’s Business.” The international outreach is expected to complement the country’s wider efforts to attract visitors, encourage tourism investment and create greater opportunities for local businesses and communities.
Through its participation in these events, Guyana will seek to position its natural attractions, eco-tourism experiences, cultural heritage and emerging tourism infrastructure before a wider international market.
