Hundreds of families in Region Two are moving closer to completing their dream homes through the government’s Steel and Cement Housing Subsidy Programme.
Since the initiative was introduced in October 2022, some 276 residents in the region have received vouchers valued at a total of $62.1 million, easing the cost of constructing their homes.
The initiative provides building material vouchers to low- and middle-income persons who have received government house lots.
Under the programme, persons constructing homes valued at up to $6 million receive the required steel and one sling of cement for their foundation, while those building homes valued between $6 million and $25 million receive two slings of cement.

The vouchers can be redeemed at approved local hardware and building suppliers, reducing the financial burden on homeowners as they begin construction.
During his featured address on Sunday at the International Building Expo 2026 at the National Stadium in Providence, Minister of Housing Collin Croal disclosed that the ‘Dream Realised’ initiative also saw the distribution of more than 70 steel and cement subsidy vouchers.
To date, approximately $75 million in vouchers have been distributed under the programme to assist persons in constructing their homes.
The programme continues to play an important role in supporting home ownership across the country.
The latest distribution reflects the government’s continued investment in helping Guyanese families build homes while improving living standards through affordable housing initiatives.
