As Region Two continues to experience economic growth, residents are being encouraged to take advantage of government-sponsored scholarships and online learning opportunities to prepare them for future employment.

Speaking with the Department of Public Information (DPI), Minister of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation, Zulifkar Ally, said that the changing economy requires a workforce equipped with modern skills, and the government is ensuring Guyanese have access to the training needed to compete.
He said at his office on Tuesday that “there are scholarships on the Coursera platform. We want the citizens of the Essequibo Coast to utilise them and upgrade themselves because the new jobs that are coming into the market require you to have different types of skills.”
He noted that development taking place across Region Two is creating new opportunities in multiple sectors.
Even traditional industries, he explained, are becoming increasingly technology-driven.
“Even farming now is a lot about technology-based systems. It requires you to know about them. It’s not the simple farming that we knew before.”
Minister Ally said his ministry intends to use the presidential outreach to ensure residents are aware of the training opportunities.
He stressed that ensuring Guyanese have the right skills is central to the government’s vision of inclusive development, allowing citizens to benefit from the country’s expanding economy.
The ministry continues to promote scholarships, online certification programmes and skills development initiatives as part of the government’s investment in building a highly skilled public and private sector workforce.
