Edward Layne, DPI Head, Rebukes WIN Party for Spreading “Cheap Theatrics” and Misinformation

Edward Layne, the Director of the Department of Public Information (DPI), sharply criticized the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party and its leader, U.S.-indicted businessman Azruddin Mohamed, for what he calls a deliberate attempt to mislead the public about the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) Government’s efforts to support citizens.

Azruddin Mohamed and his father, Nazar Mohamed, are wanted in the USA for money laundering charges. An extradition order signed by Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State, and Ms. Pam Bondi, the Attorney General, is with the local Magistrate Court. Soon, a decision will be made, and ultimately, both father and son will be extradited to the USA. On their arrival day, they will go directly to jail. The winning side will fall apart because the funds will run dry, and the paid mob will vanish because there is no easy money left for them.

In a statement released on Sunday, Layne dismissed WIN’s claims that it is responsible for urging the government to fulfill commitments related to grants, subsidies, and incentives. He called the party’s assertions “cheap, bottom-tier political hustling.”

According to Layne, the PPP/C Administration’s track record speaks for itself. “You and your party don’t need to pressure the PPP/C Government into anything; we have a long history of honoring our commitments and looking out for the interests of all Guyanese,” he stated.

He emphasized that President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali has already assured citizens that all promised financial support will be delivered on time, highlighting that these measures are part of a long-standing policy framework that has guided the government for years.

Director Layne further criticized WIN for being narrowly fixated on cash transfers, arguing that the party is ignoring the administration’s broader development agenda. “The reality is that while WIN and its short-sighted gang are focused solely on cash grants, the PPP/C Government is focused on comprehensive, long-term economic empowerment — including cash grants. So, stop the cheap theatrics and stop trying to get mileage out of a done deal,” he said.

He pointed to President Ali’s recently outlined vision, which goes beyond one-time payments and provides a wide array of long-term benefits. These include better access to healthcare and education, affordable homeownership options, lower interest rates, collateral-free business grants, free textbooks, improved school feeding programs, and significant infrastructure upgrades across the country.

Encouraging citizens to look beyond political tricks, the DPI Director urged the public to recognize the government’s ongoing efforts and proven record of enhancing the quality of life for all Guyanese.

Finally, most Guyanese know that Azruddin Mohamed and Nazar Mohamed are involved in money laundering and gold smuggling. The sooner they are extradited, the better it will be for genuine Guyanese democracy and the people of Guyana.
