Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again stirred global attention by suggesting that he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for his achievements during his presidency, particularly in advancing peace agreements and avoiding new wars. Speaking at a recent campaign rally, Trump reiterated his claim that no other American leader has done “more to promote peace around the world” than he did during his four years in office.

Referring to himself as the “Peace President,” Trump highlighted several diplomatic breakthroughs under his administration, including the historic Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and several Arab nations, and the negotiations with North Korea that led to a temporary de-escalation of nuclear tensions. “They gave Obama a Nobel Prize for doing nothing,” Trump quipped, drawing applause and laughter from the crowd. “I actually made peace deals—real ones. But they don’t want to recognize that because of politics.”

Trump’s comments come as the Nobel Committee prepares for its annual deliberations, with global attention on humanitarian and diplomatic achievements amid ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. Although Trump was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2020 by several European lawmakers for his role in the Middle East peace process, he did not receive the award.

The former president’s supporters argue that his administration’s foreign policy focused on deterrence and diplomacy rather than prolonged military engagements. They point to his efforts to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan and avoid new wars as proof of his commitment to peace. Critics, however, contend that Trump’s rhetoric and isolationist policies weakened traditional alliances and undermined international cooperation.

Political analysts view Trump’s renewed mention of the Nobel Prize as part of his broader 2024 campaign narrative, aimed at projecting himself as a strong, pragmatic leader capable of preventing global conflicts. “It’s not about ego—it’s about truth,” Trump said during his speech. “When you stop wars, bring nations together, and protect your people, that’s what a peace president does.”

The Nobel Peace Prize, awarded annually in Oslo, Norway, recognizes individuals or organizations that have made outstanding contributions to peace efforts. Whether Trump’s claims will influence future nominations remains uncertain, but his statements have once again reignited debate over how peace is defined—and who truly deserves to be honored for it.
