More than 150,000 cash grants have already been distributed under the government’s National Cash Grant Initiative, signalling significant progress in delivering financial support to citizens across Guyana.
Minister within the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr Ashni Singh, provided the update on Tuesday, revealing that a total of 150,963 payments have been processed to date.
This includes 140,546 direct deposits into bank accounts, comprising central government employees and persons who registered through the online portal.

Additionally, over 10,000 payments have been issued, primarily through cheque for residents in hinterland communities, where access to banking services remains limited.
The minister explained that the initiative has been designed to ensure efficiency and inclusivity, with over 126,000 persons already completing self-registration via the government’s online platform.
Of that number, more than 91,000 individuals have successfully received direct transfers.
Recognising the unique challenges faced in hinterland regions, the government has implemented targeted measures to ensure no one is left behind, deploying teams to assist with registration and payment distribution, particularly for persons without bank accounts.
Following a successful rollout in Region Nine, similar exercises are expected to be expanded to other hinterland regions.
Further efforts are also being introduced to improve accessibility, including home-based support for elderly and incapacitated persons, as well as the establishment of help desks across the country to assist individuals who may face challenges with the registration process.
The National Cash Grant Initiative, first announced by President Mohamed Irfaan Ali and funded under Budget 2026, continues to be rolled out using systems aimed at delivering support directly to citizens in a timely and efficient manner.
