More than 4,100 Guyanese moved swiftly to register for the $100,000 cash grant within hours of the portal’s launch, with over 2,300 completing the process as the government accelerates delivery of the landmark initiative.

Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr Ashni Singh, provided the update during an interview with NCN Berbice on Thursday, assuring citizens that despite early technical slowdowns, the system is working and will remain accessible to all eligible Guyanese.

He noted that this latest phase builds on an already successful rollout, which saw the bulk of central government employees, including public servants, teachers and members of the disciplined services, receive their grants seamlessly via direct bank transfers.

“That was done literally with the click of a button,” Minister Singh explained, emphasising the government’s focus on efficiency and convenience.

The initiative, first announced by President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali shortly after taking office in September 2025, allocates over $60 billion in Budget 2026 to provide $100,000 to every adult Guyanese citizen.

According to Minister Singh, the newly launched online registration portal, developed by local professionals at the National Data Management Authority (NDMA), represents a major step forward in using technology to deliver public services.

“The response has been overwhelming. We saw an avalanche of traffic almost immediately,” he said, acknowledging reports from users who experienced delays or difficulty accessing the system.

He reassured citizens that these issues are temporary and stem from high demand.
