Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo warns of a plot to weaken the PPP/C majority involving a U.S.-sanctioned Azruddin Mohamed. First, let’s share what Azruddin Mohamed’s uncles are publicly saying about him. They are warning the Guyanese voters about a dishonest nephew who is under criminal investigation by OFAC, the FBI, Homeland Security, and in Guyana by the GRA.

And here’s the twist in this circus of corruption: even Azruddin’s blood uncles, Yusuf Mohamed and Haseeb Mohamed, have rejected him. In a viral video, Yusuf Mohamed—his uncle, a respected religious leader and former head of the Guyana Islamic Trust—spoke publicly and with moral clarity:

“I have examined all of the candidates, including my nephew, Azruddin Mohamed, and I have only seen one person who outshines all the others…I hereby endorse Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali as President for the Co-operative Republic of Guyana for a second term.”

Mr. Yusuf Mohamed expressed his support indirectly by siding with their brother, Nazar Mohamed.

Azruddin hijacked his father’s charity and is now turning it into a political circus. He goes to the people to show them he’s a charitable man who deserves to lead. But this guy isn’t fit, and he and his sister, Hannah Mohamed, just wake up one morning and decide to form a political party because Azruddin has some social media presence and a lot of followers. These people are just social media freaks.

    He insisted loudly that.

“I have examined all of the candidates, including my nephew, Azruddin Mohamed, and I have only seen one person who outshines all the others…I hereby endorse Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali as President for the Co-operative Republic of Guyana for a second term.”

The uncle added: “My nephew, Azruddin Mohamed, he does not understand politics, he does not understand geo-politics, he is a political [novice]…I don’t think he has that ability, and he is not that educated…that is my main reason. If he had those qualities, I would have been the first to endorse him, but he doesn’t have leadership qualities. So that is why I just dismiss him,” Mohamed Yusuf said in a video recording posted on Facebook on Saturday.

That is not just a family dispute—that is a moral indictment. Yusuf didn’t stop there:

“Dr Irfaan [Ali] has distinguished himself as a very capable and prominent leader of Guyana… It’s very difficult for anybody to deny his accomplishments.”

Let that sink in. His uncle—a man of faith, reputation, and credibility—has ignored him and supported the President. If your own family doesn’t believe in you, what makes you think the nation will? You can’t buy dignity, Azruddin. Not with your stolen gold. Not with your laundered money. Not with your fake smile on a billboard.

The Mohameds deny any wrongdoing, and instead, both father and son accuse the PPP government rather than law enforcement authorities in the USA.

However, they are under investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Department of Homeland Security, and other U.S. agencies for suspected smuggling of Colombian cocaine and illegally mined Venezuelan gold into the United States, Europe, and the Middle East, according to five sources familiar with the investigation.

The Mohameds are also suspected of laundering money for drug traffickers and criminals, including sanctioned Russian nationals operating in the region, according to one intelligence report.

Azruddin Mohamed is neither a philanthropist nor a leader, and definitely not a freedom fighter. He is a disgrace, shaming his family, his Muslim community, and the nation. His wealth is gained through bribery and treachery. His political ambitions are based on deception. His campaign isn’t about serving others; it’s about protecting himself. He embodies everything wrong with politics: corruption, lies, and an unashamed hunger for power.

Let the record show: the people of Guyana are not for sale. We will not allow a criminal to rebrand himself as a candidate. We will not permit the opposition to trade integrity for expediency. And we will not let our country’s future be sold for a Lamborghini and a lie.

People’s Progressive Party (PPP) General Secretary and Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo has expressed serious concerns about what he calls a deliberate effort by political opponents to weaken the PPP/Civic Government by trying to establish minority rule in Parliament.

Speaking to over 12,000 supporters at a major fundraising dinner held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Jagdeo claimed that opposition parties, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and the Alliance for Change (AFC), are collaborating with new political figures like US-sanctioned Azruddin Mohamed to split the PPP’s vote share ahead of the 2025 General and Regional Elections.

According to Dr Jagdeo, APNU and AFC, having lost credibility in key electoral strongholds, are now relying on proxy candidates to weaken the PPP’s hold in Parliament. “So, APNU and AFC can’t go back to the sugar belt and the rice belt, or many parts of the country, to campaign. Nobody listens to them. Therefore, individuals like Azruddin Mohamed can now fulfill that role. They’ve all said that they will work together to bring the PPP below 50 percent in the Parliament so they can control the Parliament,” Dr Jagdeo warned.

Still, some vulnerable communities may be at risk. In interior areas and among our treasured Amerindian citizens, where internet access is limited, Azruddin’s propaganda may still go unchecked. That’s why it is now the democratic duty of every decent, right-thinking Guyanese to speak up, spread the truth, and make sure Azruddin’s lies do not pollute the minds of the people. We must ensure that the truth moves faster than his envelope of dirty money.

Despite these challenges, Dr Jagdeo expressed strong confidence in the PPP’s chances in the upcoming elections but urged supporters to stay vigilant. “We will win the elections; it’s just a matter of how much. We want to win by a landslide,” he declared, reminding supporters of the narrow loss in the 2015 elections when the PPP fell short by just 4,000 votes.

“We’ve succeeded in connecting with non-traditional supporters of the PPP. We’ve gained influence in the Amerindian and Afro-Guyanese communities, which were previously distant from us due to rumors that we’re a racist party. Now, they are coming to us because they believe their future and their children’s future can be better protected under the PPP Government. People are now focusing on performance rather than appearance when considering leadership, Dr Jagdeo concluded.

Azruddin Mohamed is the past—a past of smuggling, laundering, bribing, and betrayal. Let us make sure he stays there—alone, disgraced, and exposed.

Finally, everyone in Guyana knows that both Nazar and Azruddin Mohamed will ultimately end up in jail, whether in the United States, in Guyana, or both.
