As Guyana embarks on the journey of 2025, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, Vice-President and General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), delivered an inspiring New Year’s message to Guyanese citizens at home and abroad. His address celebrated the nation’s achievements while emphasizing the importance of unity and vigilance ahead of the 2025 General and Regional Elections.

Reflecting on 2024: A Year of Progress

Dr Jagdeo highlighted the significant strides made under the PPP/C government in 2024 despite numerous challenges. He commended the government’s transformative initiatives across key sectors, including infrastructure, energy, education, healthcare, housing, and social welfare.

In infrastructure, the completion of over 3,000 community roads, 200 bridges, and major highway expansions reduced traffic congestion and stimulated economic growth. Progress also continued the gas-to-energy project, while investments in solar energy brought electricity to remote hinterland communities.

Human capital development saw remarkable success with the creation of over 60,000 jobs and increased public sector salaries, boosting disposable incomes. Social programs, including higher pensions and bonuses for Disciplined Services ranks, provided critical support for vulnerable groups.

Housing initiatives allocated approximately 38,000 house lots, while affordable housing projects improved living standards nationwide. Education and healthcare also received substantial investments, with 50,000 scholarships awarded, expanded cash grants for students, 12 new hospitals under construction, and growth in telemedicine services. Agriculture flourished as billions were invested to enhance food security and export capabilities.

Dr Jagdeo also lauded the government’s environmental efforts. Successful carbon credit agreements injected billions into over 240 Amerindian village economies, and the Low Carbon Development Strategy 2030 reaffirmed Guyana’s leadership in environmental sustainability.

“These accomplishments are not just promises fulfilled—they are a testament to the PPP’s dedication to improving the lives of all Guyanese,” Dr.  Jagdeo said.

A Call for Unity and Vigilance

Looking ahead to the 2025 elections, Dr. Jagdeo urged citizens to reflect on the progress achieved and the importance of maintaining democracy. He encouraged voters to evaluate leaders based on their track records and reject divisive rhetoric.

“The upcoming elections are not just about choosing a government—they are about safeguarding the freedoms, rights, and democratic principles that form the foundation of our nation,” he declared.

Dr Jagdeo underscored the PPP’s status as Guyana’s only multi-ethnic political party, representing the nation’s rich diversity.

    Learning from the Past

In his address, Dr Jagdeo also emphasized the importance of accountability and transparency. He reminded citizens of the past failures of opposition parties like the PNCR, APNU, and AFC, which, he noted, had a history of undermining democracy and mismanaging resources.

“The transgressions of PNCR, APNU, and AFC—whether through undermining democracy, mismanaging resources, or harming our people—must not be forgotten or excused. Accountability is critical to maintaining justice, transparency, and good governance for future generations,” he stated.

Dr Jagdeo called for lessons to be drawn from history to ensure sustainable governance for future generations.

A Vision for a United Guyana

Focusing on the future, Dr Jagdeo reaffirmed the PPP’s commitment to fostering a stronger, more inclusive, and prosperous nation. He urged Guyanese to transcend racial and ethnic divisions and unite for the greater good.

“I wish to underscore that a united Guyana is the only path forward. Your support will be essential as we continue to build a nation that offers opportunity, unity, and hope for all,” he affirmed.

Dr Jagdeo concluded his message with a heartfelt wish for peace, progress, and success in the New Year, calling on all Guyanese to work together to create a brighter future.

Their members are leaving in droves for the PPP party, while some are desperately trying to form splinter groups to take advantage of the 29.1% Afro-Guyanese community. Azruddin Mohamed — a disgraced money launderer, gold smuggler, and fraudster — has been entirely shunned by his Muslim community. Now, he seeks to con the Amerindian community with gifts and cash. If these so-called leaders cannot even manage their own parties, how can they be trusted to govern an entire nation?
