Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo’s political journey is marked by determination, vision, leadership resilience, and an unwavering commitment to democracy and justice in Guyana. Throughout his career, he has stood firm against injustice and has become a defining force in safeguarding fair electoral processes and democratic values.

One of the most defining moments of his leadership came during the 2020 General Elections. For five long months, Guyana’s democratic foundations were tested. Dr. Jagdeo’s relentless advocacy and strategic leadership ultimately led to the restoration of democratic order, forcing then-President David Granger to concede power after an attempted electoral manipulation and rigging of the general elections by PNC/AFC supporters. Under Dr Jagdeo’s guidance and determination, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) returned to power democratically, reaffirming the will of the Guyanese people.

Despite his immense contributions, Dr. Jagdeo faces daily attacks from an insignificant vocal minority who often rely on misinformation and personal agendas. These cronies and detractors fear his intellect, foresight, and political prowess. Rather than engaging in constructive discourse, they resort to baseless accusations, smear campaigns, and social media theatrics.

In Guyana, Dr Jagdeo’s critics blame him for everything under the sun, including Mellisa “Melly Mel” Atwell’s detention by ICE because of her immigration status in the USA.

Aubrey Norton and Nigel Hughes are accusing the PPP government of her arrest and detention in Louisiana, USA. This is an insult to many highly intelligent Afro-Guyanese, including James Bond, the former member of the PNC party. The public is wondering where these two Afro-Guyanese leaders get their news from these days. The answer is clear: they are playing the Race Card again.

Furthermore, Aubrey Norton and Nigel Hughes are dead scared of President Donald Trump and his mighty team, including Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, FBI Director Kash Patel, United States Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and Tom Homan, the immigration and border czar.

Norton and Hughes indicated they do not have an issue with Donald Trump’s immigration and border policies.

Then why were they demonstrating and dancing with 100 Afro-Guyanese in Georgetown for the release of an illegal immigrant, “Melly Mel,” from detention in Louisiana, USA?

No one on earth and in Guyana can influence Donald Trump to change his border and immigration policy.

The best thing both Hughes and Norton can do is to lobby their African American buddy Hakim Jeffries in Congress USA about the illegal immigrant Melly Atwell instead of blaming the Guyanese government and Dr. Jagdeo for her detention in Louisiana, USA.

President Donald Trump will have no time for Hakim Jeffries and his Democrats cronies who are attacking him daily. Jeffries and his Democrats are in the political doldrums for the next four years or more, and many Democrats will end up in jail.

    USA President Donald Trump
    USA President Donald Trump

It is essential to mention that there are only 12% African Americans in the USA. Hispanics comprise 18% of the population, and Asians (Indians, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Koreans) make up 13.5%. Both Hispanic and Asians in the USA refrain from using racial arguments and uphold strong meritocratic beliefs.

The USA has eyes everywhere, and they know what Aubrey Norton and Nigel Hughes are up to.

Aubrey Norton and Nigel Hughes have no economic policies for their minority Afro-Guyanese supporters. The Race card is the only policy available to these two Afro-Guyanese leaders.

One piece of free advice for Aubrey Norton before Nigel Hughes hijacks his PNC party: Norton must ask Nigel Hughes to produce AFC lifelong supporters and a vote bank of guaranteed voters who will support the PNC party in the 2025 general elections.

Our research has confirmed that AFC has fewer than 3000 voters nationwide. This is why Hughes wants to divert the minds of the PNC voters against Norton and take over the PNC party. Unfortunately, Aubrey Norton cannot see it. Many senior PNC members have confided in our journalists that Nigel Hughes has already been sussed out.

Furthermore, no one will be surprised if these two Afro-Guyanese leaders start blaming Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo for Guyana’s heavy rainfall, hot weather, and too-spicy Indian curries these days—anything to blame Dr. Jagdeo.

Elon Musk and his crony’s attackers

It reminds us of what diversity, woke, race card, and Fake News brigades are doing to Elon Musk in the USA. Musk is a modern, sophisticated genius of the 21st century—the wealthiest man on earth. Contemporary science intellectuals compare Elon Musk to Albert Einstein.

Nevertheless, the biased fake news in the USA is calling Elon by many filthy names, including Hitler, and some individuals are even advocating his death.

Elon Musk is saving US taxpayers billions of USD. His target is to save between one and two Trillion USD. It appears that the fraudsters are very upset about him. Why? Because fraudsters cannot rob Social Security and other government institutions in the USA anymore. The American thieves are upset that they cannot get their monthly fraudulent cheques, and Elon has exposed them to the country, its citizens, and the world.

Dr. Jagdeo remains undeterred and committed to serving all Guyanese and advancing the country’s development. In addition, Dr Jagdeo does not suffer fools gladly.

Dr. Jagdeo’s accomplishments speak for themselves. He has served Guyana with distinction—as Tourism Minister, Minister of Finance, President (for two terms), and currently as Vice President and General Secretary of the PPP/C. Under his leadership, Guyana experienced unprecedented economic growth, infrastructure development, and social upliftment

His vision for a better Guyana remains unwavering. Despite distractions and misleading narratives, Dr. Jagdeo diligently works to enhance the living standards of every citizen. His leadership is rooted in experience, data-driven policies, and a passion for national development.

In today’s political climate, where misinformation spreads quickly, it is imperative to stand against falsehoods and defend the truth. We will continue highlighting the facts and holding those who spread baseless accusations accountable through our credible platforms, reaching over 200,000 readers across social media platforms and online News publications.

Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo is not just a political figure; he is also an election strategist, a visionary, a champion of democracy, and a role model for future generations. To truly understand the impact of his leadership, one must examine his journey from the beginning—a story of commitment, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to the people of Guyana.

To get to know Dr. Jagdeo, we must start from the beginning of his political career.

Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, born on January 23, 1964, in the rural village of Unity on the East Coast Demerara in Guyana, emerged from humble beginnings that shaped his worldview and eventual rise to political prominence. Raised in a working-class family, Dr Jagdeo’s early life was characterized by the modesty of rural living. Like many others in the region, his parents led simple lives rooted in agriculture, and the struggles of everyday life were evident around him. These formative experiences profoundly influenced Jagdeo’s later commitment to poverty alleviation, sustainable development, and education.

His early childhood, surrounded by the agrarian landscape, impressed upon him the importance of community and the collective challenges that small, rural communities faced in accessing education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. Dr Jagdeo was no stranger to hardship, and his family instilled in him the values of hard work, perseverance, and integrity at a young age. Though not affluent, his parents emphasized education as a vehicle for social mobility and personal growth. They encouraged young Bharrat Jagdeo to strive for academic excellence, which became the foundation of his future success.

Even as a child, Dr Jagdeo displayed an exceptional aptitude for academics, particularly in mathematics and economics. His teachers recognized his intellectual promise early on, and he stood out among his peers for his focus and discipline. His ambitions were evident from a young age. With his family’s support, he began to view education as personal advancement and a way to contribute meaningfully to the development of Guyana. These early aspirations set him on a path that would eventually lead him to the highest office in the country.

    Education and Academic Pursuits

After excelling in his secondary education in Guyana, Dr Jagdeo earned a prestigious scholarship to attend Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow, Russia. This university, known for its focus on socialist economics and development models, was a key destination for students from developing countries seeking to understand the complex dynamics of economic development within a global context. For Dr Jagdeo, this was a transformative opportunity that exposed him to various economic philosophies, political ideologies, and international perspectives.

During his time in Moscow, Dr Jagdeo pursued a master’s degree in economics, honing his skills in economic theory, fiscal policy, and development economics. His academic focus was deeply influenced by the prevailing geopolitical climate, particularly the Soviet Union’s emphasis on state-driven economic models. While in Moscow, Dr Jagdeo engaged with a diverse student body from various parts of the world, expanding his worldview and further developing a commitment to addressing the economic inequalities faced by developing nations like his own.

In addition to traditional economic theory, Dr Jagdeo explored the emerging field of environmental economics during his studies. This burgeoning interest would later become a hallmark of his leadership, particularly about his Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS). His exposure to environmental and economic issues during this period laid the groundwork for his future policy innovations, which would marry economic development with ecological sustainability.

Upon completing his studies in Russia, Dr Jagdeo returned to Guyana with a broadened perspective and a deep commitment to using his education to improve his homeland. His time abroad had not distanced him from the realities of life in Guyana but had, instead, reinforced his determination to address the challenges of poverty, economic instability, and underdevelopment.

Early Political Career and Ministry Roles

Returning to Guyana in the early 1990s, Dr Jagdeo quickly established himself as a key figure within the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), one of the country’s dominant political forces. The PPP, rooted in socialist ideology and committed to advancing Guyana’s working class, provided the ideal platform for Dr Jagdeo’s entrance into politics. His education and expertise in economics made him an invaluable asset to the party, which was seeking to rejuvenate a struggling economy and address widespread social inequities.

Dr Jagdeo’s first significant role within the government came from his appointment as an economist at the State Planning Secretariat. He began working on critical fiscal policy, debt management, and economic development issues. His work during this period earned him a reputation as a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of Guyana’s financial challenges.

In 1993, Dr Jagdeo’s rising profile led to his appointment as Senior Minister of Finance. This role placed him at the center of the country’s efforts to stabilize and reform its economy. At the time, Guyana was grappling with significant fiscal deficits, high levels of foreign debt, and a stagnating economy. Dr Jagdeo’s tenure as Finance Minister was marked by a series of critical interventions to reduce fiscal imbalances, restructure debt, and promote foreign investment. He was instrumental in securing debt relief through international initiatives such as the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) program, which allowed Guyana to reduce its debt burden and redirect resources toward development initiatives.

Dr Jagdeo’s focus on economic modernization was evident in his approach to fiscal policy, which prioritized transparency, efficiency, and inclusiveness. He sought to ensure that economic reforms benefited the average citizen, not just the elite. His efforts to address poverty through targeted social programs and fiscal reforms earned him respect both domestically and internationally, as he became known for his pragmatic and result-driven approach to governance.

In addition to his responsibilities as Finance Minister, Dr Jagdeo took the ministerial role of Tourism and Trade. This was a strategic move, as Guyana desperately needed economic diversification. The country had traditionally relied heavily on agriculture and mining, but these sectors were vulnerable to international market fluctuations and environmental challenges. Dr Jagdeo recognized the need to expand the economy into new industries that could provide sustainable growth and development.

The Presidency and the start of the Economic developments in Guyana.

In August 1999, after President Janet Jagan resigned, Dr Bharrat Jagdeo became the youngest President in Guyana’s history at 35. His ascent to the presidency marked the beginning of a new era for the country, which was still reeling from decades of economic stagnation and political instability. Dr Jagdeo’s presidency would later be characterized as a period of significant economic reform, growth, and international recognition.

One of Dr Jagdeo’s first major initiatives as president was implementing economic reforms to revitalize the struggling economy. He focused on creating a favorable environment for foreign investment, diversifying the economy, and improving fiscal management. His administration’s successful negotiation of debt relief through the HIPC initiative was a significant achievement that provided the country with the fiscal space needed to invest in critical infrastructure, healthcare, education, and social services.

Under Dr Jagdeo’s leadership, the Guyanese economy began to show signs of sustained growth. His government prioritized infrastructure development, investing heavily in roads, bridges, Housing, and telecommunications to improve connectivity and support economic activities. Additionally, his administration launched poverty alleviation programs to improve living standards for the country’s most vulnerable populations. These initiatives helped lift many Guyanese out of poverty, and Dr Jagdeo’s presidency became synonymous with economic stability and progress.

A defining feature of Dr Jagdeo’s presidency was his commitment to environmental sustainability. In 2009, he launched the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS), a groundbreaking initiative that sought to position Guyana as a global leader in the fight against climate change. The LCDS aimed to protect the country’s vast rainforests, which are critical for carbon sequestration, while also generating revenue through carbon credits and promoting sustainable economic activities such as eco-tourism and renewable energy development.

The LCDS was internationally acclaimed and earned Dr Jagdeo recognition as a leading advocate for climate change action, particularly on behalf of small and developing states. His leadership on environmental issues was a significant part of his legacy, and the LCDS became a model for other countries seeking to balance economic development with ecological conservation.

Dr Jagdeo’s crucial role in the Oil and Gas sector

Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo has played a pivotal leadership role in guiding Guyana’s emergence as a major player in the global oil and gas industry. Under his strategic oversight, the government has implemented sound policies to ensure that the country’s natural resources are developed responsibly and transparently, with the long-term interests of all Guyanese at the forefront. Dr. Jagdeo has been instrumental in negotiating investments, strengthening regulatory frameworks, and promoting local content to ensure that the benefits of the oil and gas sector are shared across communities. His forward-thinking approach aims to transform oil revenues into sustainable development—investing in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic diversification to secure a brighter future for generations to come.

In 2010, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) awarded Dr Jagdeo the prestigious “Champion of the Earth” award. This recognition was a testament to his pioneering work on the Low Carbon Development Strategy and his advocacy for environmental sustainability. His leadership on global climate change dialogues, particularly his efforts to represent the interests of small islands and developing states, earned him a prominent place on the international stage.

Dr Jagdeo’s international work extended beyond environmental advocacy. He was appointed Chair of the Green Climate Fund, which is critical of financing climate-related projects in developing countries. In this capacity, Dr Jagdeo continued to influence global climate policy and advocate for the needs of the world’s most vulnerable populations.

In 2025, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo received the World Community Leaders’ prestigious Sustainable Development Leadership Award in India.

Following Dr Ali’s election, Dr Jagdeo was appointed Vice President. This position has allowed him to continue shaping the future direction of the country’s economy, including Oil and Gas and environmental policies.
