Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo criticised Opposition Leader Aubrey Norton for distorting IMF findings

Why does Aubrey Norton not check his facts and figures before uttering such nonsense in Parliament? Many in his own PNC party are questioning his role as the leader of the PNC Party. Have they elected the wrong leader to lead them?  The voters can see his incompetence when talking about economic matters.

Aubrey Norton has deliberately isolated all the former leaders of the PNC party. Why? Because he wants to keep away from the supporters of the PNC party who rigged the last general election of 2020.

In the world of social media platforms, trying to keep the deliberate action of PNC Party’s supporters from rigging the General Election will be exposed more during the next few months before the next general election in 2025. In a democracy, those who rigged elections must face the wrath of the voters.

Furthermore, Aubrey Norton has nothing to offer the voters of Guyana except his only policy of racism against the PPP party. He is a one-policy leader who is trying to convince his Afro–Guyanese that the PPP party is racist. The Afro-Guyanese know full well that this is not true. That is why the middle-class Afro-Guyanese voters had enough of his one-policy doctrine and are joining the PPP party.

Even the voters are telling Aubrey Norton that the police force, the army, the fire brigade, the teachers, Airport and harbour officials, and the civil servants are over 80% Afro-Guyanese. So, where is the racism accusation coming from? This is a fact in Guyana, and Aubrey must learn to master his figures. How can Aubrey Norton utter such a political rant of racism against the PPP party? The answer is simple. He has nothing to offer the Guyana voters, who know it.

This racism dogma has been going on since Forbes Burnham’s time. All PPP party governments did not change the 80% jobs for the Afro-Guyanese.   Again, Aubrey Norton should check his numbers about who is discriminating against the Indo-Guyanese, the Amerindians, and other minority groups in Guyana, together are over 55% percent of the population. Without the support of over 55% of voters, the PNC will never win. By accusing the 55% of racism, Aubrey Norton has “shot his own foot.”

Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party, has strongly criticized Opposition Leader Aubrey Norton for distorting data from an International Monetary Fund (IMF) report.

During his recent budget debate presentation, Norton referenced a report suggesting that Guyana had experienced a 41% economic loss due to inefficiencies. Dr. Jagdeo clarified that this report dates back to 2017, when the APNU+AFC coalition government was in power.

The IMF’s report, conducted in 2017, highlighted an efficiency gap of 41% in Guyana’s public investment management. This gap was significantly higher than the regional averages for Latin America and the Caribbean. Notably, the inefficiencies pointed out in the report reflected policies implemented during the previous government’s tenure.

Furthermore, the report outlined various recommendations to address this efficiency gap, including establishing a rule-based fiscal framework and improving project preparation and public-private partnerships.

Dr. Jagdeo emphasized that many of these measures have been implemented by the current PPP/C government, rendering the 2017 report less relevant to Guyana’s economic landscape.

He highlighted the government’s efforts in conducting feasibility studies and efficiency assessments for major projects, which have significantly reduced inefficiencies compared to the period assessed in the IMF report.

In sum, Dr. Jagdeo accused Norton of misrepresenting the IMF report, as it primarily assessed the operations of the previous government and did not accurately reflect the current state of Guyana’s economy.

Regarding economics, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo is a world-class economist compared to Aubrey Norton’s knowledge of economics. There is a saying amongst Guyanese intellectuals that Dr. Jagdeo eats leaders like Aubrey Norton for breakfast.

Aubrey Norton needs to understand that the Voters of Guyana are not stupid fools who will accept his only one policy “racism” accusation.  We are living in the social media world, and we know that Aubrey Norton has nothing but one policy to offer the Guyanese voters, which is “racism” against the PPP party. We know that PNC’s old guards do not want to associate themselves with Aubrey Norton’s one policy, “racism.” They regard Aubrey Norton as an embarrassment to their beloved PNC party.
