Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo has reaffirmed that the governing People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) will not renegotiate its 2025–2030 development plan, emphasizing that the party’s policies are based on the will of the Guyanese people — not dictated by civil society or media opinion.
In Guyana, a few individuals and so-called groups, consisting of two to five people, believe they have the right to question the legally elected government’s manifesto, which the voters overwhelmingly supported by electing the PPP party with 36 seats in Parliament.
Who do these societies represent in Guyana? The answer is themselves, and with only 20 votes among themselves, we should ignore these buffoons who are looking for 15 minutes of fame.
Speaking at a recent press conference, Dr. Jagdeo emphasized that the PPP/C Government remains fully committed to fulfilling the promises it made to the people during the last elections. He dismissed attempts by what he called “self-appointed critics” to redefine the Government’s priorities, insisting that the PPP/C’s plan was developed through broad public consultation and endorsed at the ballot box.
“The agenda that we campaigned on is not subject to further approval from any civil society group or media house,” the Vice President declared. “We do not seek our mandate from them. Our authority comes directly from the people of Guyana, who voted for this plan. Our responsibility now is to deliver on that mandate—openly, lawfully, and efficiently.”
Dr. Jagdeo emphasized that all government projects must follow the country’s financial and legal rules, but the main development plan will not be reopened for discussion. “The agenda was established by the people of this country,” he stressed. “Our task is to ensure its transparent and effective implementation.”
Core Priorities for National Development
Outlining the main pillars of the PPP/C’s five-year plan, Dr. Jagdeo emphasized significant investments in key sectors such as education, healthcare, housing, job creation, and regional development. He stated that the government is exceptionally dedicated to improving social services for vulnerable groups like pensioners, single parents, and people with disabilities.
“We are working to improve communities, make them safer and cleaner, and create better-paying jobs,” Jagdeo explained. “Economic growth must be inclusive. Every Guyanese family deserves the opportunity to own a home and be part of the country’s progress.”
The Vice President acknowledged that, while much of the nation’s rapid economic growth has been concentrated in Region Four due to the booming oil and gas industry, the Government’s commitment is to ensure fair development across all ten administrative regions. Through financial incentives, infrastructure projects, and targeted investments, the PPP/C aims to bring prosperity to the hinterland and rural areas.
“We’ve seen tremendous growth in Region Four, but nine other regions must share in those benefits,” he stated. “Inclusive development means creating jobs and opportunities everywhere — not just in one region.”
Vision for 2025–2030: ‘One Country, One People, One Future’
Launched in August under the theme “One Country, One People, One Future – Forward Together for a Better Guyana,” the PPP/C’s manifesto outlines a bold plan for the next five years. Key initiatives include building 40,000 new homes, ongoing infrastructure projects, establishing an aviation training school, developing a deep-water port, creating a national rail system, and constructing 100 new schools.
To further reduce the cost of living, the PPP/C has pledged not to introduce new taxes in any budget during its upcoming term, ensuring that citizens retain more disposable income as the economy grows.
Building a Safer, More Sustainable Capital
Complementing the national agenda, President Dr. Irfaan Ali has launched the Safe Road, Safe City, Safe Country initiative, emphasizing modern infrastructure and urban renewal. As part of this effort, a detailed Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping of Georgetown’s drainage system, housing inventory, and recreational areas is underway.
“I’ve already instructed that all drains in the city be surveyed and added to the GIS,” President Ali announced. “Once completed, we’ll launch a major drainage upgrade program covering every street and neighborhood in Georgetown.”
He also announced plans to map all housing units and recreational facilities in the capital to guide future investments. “We are developing a sustainable urban housing plan and improving recreational spaces to enhance the quality of life and promote wellness among residents,” the President said.
Delivering the People’s Mandate
Reinforcing his stance, Vice President Jagdeo affirmed that the focus of the PPP/C Government remains steady: to fulfill the promises made to Guyanese citizens and continue building a stronger, more inclusive nation.
“Our development agenda is clear, people-driven, and non-negotiable,” he asserted. “It was established by the people of Guyana—and it is for the people of Guyana.”
These publicity seekers in Guyana should find decent jobs, but unfortunately, no one seems to care about them. With social media platforms, nobody has time for these outdated 1970s individuals.
