Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo and the Secretary General of the PPP Party reaffirmed that the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) Government is fully prepared to meet the challenges and responsibilities of a demanding parliamentary term following the swearing-in of Members of Parliament (MPs) for Guyana’s 13th Parliament on Monday.

Speaking to the media at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC), Dr. Jagdeo expressed confidence that the PPP/C team is ready to serve the people with renewed commitment, energy, and focus. He said the government’s parliamentarians are prepared to vigorously represent the public and continue advancing the administration’s developmental agenda for the nation.

Victory on September 1st reflects the strength of our representation in the House,” Dr. Jagdeo declared. “We look forward to serving the people and implementing an exciting and transformative agenda for Guyana.

The Vice President described the start of the new parliamentary session as a period of hope and progress for both the government and the country. “It’s a great day for the PPP and for Guyana. You can feel the excitement among all our ministers — they’re eager to get to work and deliver on our promises,” he said.

Reiterating his firm stance on governance, Dr. Jagdeo reaffirmed that the PPP/C’s 2025–2030 policy framework is rooted in the will of the voters. He emphasized that the administration’s plans and policies originate from the mandate given by the people, not from external validation or approval.

“Our agenda was presented to the people of Guyana during the elections, and they endorsed it,” Jagdeo said. “We don’t seek approval from civil society groups or the media for every initiative we take. Our mandate comes directly from the people, and that’s who we serve.”

Dr. Jagdeo outlined the main pillars of the government’s current and future development plans, including strengthening the education and healthcare systems, expanding housing opportunities, creating jobs, and boosting regional growth. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups such as pensioners, single parents, and people with disabilities.

“Our focus is on creating safer, cleaner communities, improving public security, and enhancing the quality of life for all Guyanese,” he said.

The 13th Parliament also welcomed several new members to the PPP/C Government’s team, bringing a generational shift and increased diversity. The new ministers include Keoma Griffith as Minister of Labor and Manpower Planning, Sarah Brown as Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Zulfikar Ally as Minister of Public Service, Government Efficiency, and Implementation, Steven Jacobs as Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports, Zamal Hussain as Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Vikash Ramkissoon as Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture, and Vanessa Benn as Minister within the Ministry of Housing.

Additionally, the government benches will now feature prominent figures such as Go-Invest CEO Peter Ramsaroop, businessman James Bond, and former Deputy Speaker Lenox Shuman — a mix of experienced professionals and emerging leaders prepared to support Guyana’s continued development.

As the PPP/C begins this new parliamentary term, Vice President Dr. Jagdeo and the Secretary General of the PPP party’s message is clear: the government is united, determined, and fully prepared to advance Guyana’s development agenda — one focused on growth, inclusion, and earning the trust of the people who elected them.
