Fresh efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine concluded without a major breakthrough, as negotiators described the discussions as “difficult” and marked by deep divisions. Despite hours of dialogue, both sides remained far apart on core issues including territorial control, security guarantees, and ceasefire conditions.

Officials familiar with the talks said that while communication channels remain open, progress was limited. Ukraine continues to insist on the restoration of its territorial integrity and strong international security assurances, while Russia maintains its strategic and security demands. The lack of consensus underscores the complexity of resolving a conflict that has reshaped European security and triggered global economic consequences.

International mediators and observers expressed cautious hope that continued engagement could eventually narrow differences. However, diplomatic sources acknowledged that trust deficits and battlefield realities are complicating negotiations.

The war, which began in 2022, has led to significant humanitarian suffering, displacement, and infrastructure damage. As fighting continues in several regions, global leaders are urging renewed diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation and to seek a sustainable, long-term peace agreement.
