The well-structured developmental strategies within Budget 2025 have received another wave of commendation in the National Assembly, further cementing its role as a driving force for national progress.
During Wednesday’s budget debates, the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Anand Persaud, joined his cabinet colleagues in passionately defending the financial plan.
A “Pathway to Prosperity”
Minister Persaud described the budget as a “pathway to prosperity” for all Guyanese, emphasizing the significance of its allocations in improving lives and fostering economic growth. He underscored how each measure within the budget will leave a lasting positive impact on various sectors.
“Budget 2025 is the embodiment of carefully crafted policies and projects to continue our brisk and bold agenda for the transformation of our economy,” the minister stated.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to social welfare initiatives, including cash grants for newborns, increases in old-age pensions, and billions of dollars allocated to ease living costs and increase citizens’ disposable income.
Opposition’s Criticism Rejected
Minister Persaud dismissed the opposition’s criticisms as “lackluster and weak,” accusing them of recycling outdated arguments and attempting to mislead the public with misinformation.
“We are fully committed to ensuring this budget’s success and securing every Guyanese’s prosperity. The rapid growth and development we are experiencing today is a direct result of the PPP/C’s dedication to good governance.
In sharp contrast to the APNU+AFC, defined by bad governance that stagnated growth and destroyed economies, we are now democratically guiding this country towards a prosperous and sustainable future,” the minister reaffirmed.
Major Budget Benefits
Beyond social assistance programs, Budget 2025 includes allocations aimed at reducing electricity prices by 50 percent, eliminating bridge tolls for over 50,000 commuters daily, and expanding access to housing through the distribution of thousands of houses in the country.
Minister Persaud’s vigorous defense of the budget highlights the government’s commitment to ensuring sustainable economic progress and an improved quality of life for all Guyanese.
