More than 20 small businesses will join forces to support breast cancer awareness and research as the Small Business Bureau (SBB) hosts its third annual Shop for a Cause Walk and Expo at the Kingston Seawall Esplanade on October 10 and 11, 2026.
Organised under the theme “Walk with Purpose. Shop with Impact.”, the two-day event will bring together local entrepreneurs, community members and supporters to promote small businesses while raising funds for the Cancer Institute of Guyana.
Under the initiative, each participating SBB-supported business will donate at least $10,000 or 10 per cent of its expo sales. Additional contributions will come from SBB employees, walk participants and members of the public, with all proceeds directed towards the institute.
Small Business Bureau Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Ibrahim said the event highlights the role entrepreneurs can play in supporting important social causes while showcasing locally produced goods and services.
“Shop for a Cause allows our small-business community to contribute to an issue that affects families across Guyana while showcasing the talent and resilience of local entrepreneurs. Every purchase made at the expo and every step taken during the walk will help to advance breast cancer awareness and research,” Ibrahim stated.
The expo will operate from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on both days, featuring products and services from participating businesses. Health-awareness booths and representatives from government agencies will also be available to share information and provide support to visitors.
The accompanying awareness walk is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, beginning at 6:00 a.m. and led by breast cancer survivors.
Beyond fundraising, the initiative will honour survivors, remember those who have died from the disease and encourage greater public understanding of prevention, early detection and available treatment options.
The SBB is inviting members of the public, government agencies, private-sector organisations, entrepreneurs and community groups to take part in the activities and support the participating small businesses.
Through the annual initiative, the bureau aims to demonstrate how entrepreneurship and community participation can work together to support breast cancer awareness and research while creating opportunities for local businesses to reach new customers.
