The Commission of Inquiry into the MV Barima tragedy has officially begun its work as search and recovery operations continue with no new verified developments to report at this time.

This is according to an update from the Office of the Prime Minister on Friday.

The statement noted that the coordinated operation continues, and any new information related to the search and recovery efforts will be communicated through the established official channels as it becomes available.

Meanwhile, the chairman and members of the commission were formally sworn in on Thursday by Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman at State House in Georgetown.

The commission will now independently carry out its mandate to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident before presenting its findings, observations and recommendations upon the completion of its investigation.

The Office of the Prime Minister also advised that further media briefings will be held when significant and verified operational developments occur.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting affected families, maintaining the integrity of the ongoing search and recovery operations, and ensuring the public continues to receive accurate and verified information.
