The government is moving ahead with plans to construct a new fire station at Onderneeming, an initiative that seeks to strengthen firefighting and emergency response capabilities in Region Two.
The facility is expected to play a critical role in enhancing public safety by improving emergency response times for residents, schools and businesses across the region.
For some time, the burden of responding to emergencies in Region Two has fallen on the Charity and Anna Regina Fire Stations.
When completed, the new fire sation is expected to ease that pressure by providing an additional base for firefighters and emergency personnel.
It will allow for quicker mobilisation during emergencies, reducing response times and improving the Guyana Fire Service’s ability to protect lives and property.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has invited contractors to submit bids for the project’s completion.
The procurement process will be conducted through National Competitive Bidding procedures in accordance with the Procurement Act 2003.
The tender is open to all eligible bidders, subject to the provisions outlined in Section III of the bid document.
Interested contractors can purchase bidding documents from the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Brickdam office from 1 June 2026. The documents are available for a non-refundable fee of $3,500.
As part of the qualification requirements, bidders must submit valid compliance certificates from both the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the National Insurance Scheme (NIS).
Bids are scheduled to be opened on 23 June 2026 at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) headquarters on Main and Urquhart Streets in Georgetown.
