As part of Guyana’s Independence Jubilee celebrations in New York City, Guyana’s Ambassador to the United States, Michael Brotherson, says all 400 subway stations across the city will be adorned with branding celebrating Guyana’s milestone anniversary.

According to the ambassador, the initiative is to showcase Guyana’s culture and achievements while strengthening national pride among Guyanese living abroad.

“It really brings a sense of pride to the diaspora,” Ambassador Brotherson stated.

The visibility of the celebrations across one of the world’s busiest transit systems reflects the growing presence and influence of the Guyanese community in New York.

The subway campaign forms part of a wider slate of activities being held to commemorate Guyana’s Independence Jubilee celebrations.

Notably, the celebration will also see several Guyanese being honoured by the New York City Council for their contributions to the state.

According to a report by Caribbean Life, the honourees include musician Adrian Dutchin, District Leader Albert Baldeo, Legislator Alicia Hyndman, journalist Alim Hassim, Olympian Aliyah Abrams, Ambassador Michael E. Brotherson, attorney Aminta Kilawan-Narine, the Angels Caribbean Band, Avé Maria Brewster Haynes and others.
