Russian missile and drone strikes targeted multiple Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, on October 22, 2025, resulting in at least six civilian deaths, two of whom were children. The attacks caused widespread power outages and significant damage to residential buildings and critical energy infrastructure. Emergency services reported rescuing ten people from a high-rise fire and treating multiple injuries, including those of a child.

The strikes occurred just hours after a planned summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin was shelved. The meeting, which was intended to discuss peace efforts in Ukraine, was canceled after a phone call between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov showed no progress, with the Kremlin insisting on full control over the Donbas region.

In response to the escalating violence, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized the lack of international pressure on Russia and called for stronger collective action. He emphasized that Ukraine’s ability to strike deep into Russian territory was crucial for increasing Moscow’s willingness to negotiate.

The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, with discussions ongoing regarding coordinated support for Ukraine and the potential expansion of sanctions against Russia.
