Along Albion Road on Sunday, Dr. Jagdeo started his speech by honoring PPP’s founding leader, Dr. Cheddi Jagan, expressing confidence that the late leader would be proud of the party’s progress. “Cheddi Jagan would have been proud of the growth of the PPP/C as they have remained faithful to his ideals and committed to serving the people of the country,” he said. Dr. Jagdeo reminded supporters that the PPP/C stays true to the core values of justice, freedom, and unity—principles that Dr. Jagan lived and fought for. He emphasized the party’s commitment to breaking down barriers and exposing falsehoods in the pursuit of national unity. “Jagan united Guyanese to fight for freedom when that was taken away from them, and today, we are breaking down those barriers, we are dismantling the lies so that we can become a nationally united party,” he stated.

“We have the people!” Those powerful words from General Secretary of the People’s Progressives Party (PPP), Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, echoed at Albion Road on Sunday, inspiring the largest crowd yet ahead of Guyana’s September 1 General and Regional Elections. In an impassioned speech, Dr. Jagdeo delivered a clear message: the PPP/C is the only party with the legacy, leadership, and vision to advance Guyana.
Speaking with deep emotion, Dr. Jagdeo expressed pride in standing before the crowd, and he believed that pride was shared by every supporter present. “I stand here with immense pride, and I’m sure in your hearts you also shared that pride.” He then emphasized the importance of the PPP/C’s leadership in Guyana’s transformation, warning that the country’s progress would have been hindered if the APNU+AFC coalition had remained in office. “Guyana would have been different had the PPP/C not been in leadership,” he stated firmly.

Dr. Jagdeo criticized the opposition for continuing to deceive the public, particularly with their false claims of having won the 2020 elections. He urged Guyanese to remember these lies and stay alert. “And remember the lies of the opposition who claimed that they had won the 2020 elections.” He challenged the opposition to face the very people they abandoned—sugar workers, rice farmers, and small business owners—and to take responsibility for their broken promises. “What will they say to the sugar workers, the rice farmers, the businessmen whom they made promises and failed to deliver?” he asked. He concluded that this lack of credibility is why the opposition struggles to gain support. “This is why their support for meetings has been so low because they will never deliver on those promises.”
Dr. Jagdeo also highlighted the opposition’s long history of marginalizing Region Six, pointing out their apparent bias against the PPP/C stronghold. “APNU+AFC has always been prejudiced against Region Six—the PPP/C stronghold,” he said. Shifting focus to economic issues, he criticized the closure of the Rose Hall Sugar Estate under the APNU+AFC administration and mocked their latest plan to grow marijuana on sugar lands. “They are now claiming that they will close the sugar industry and grow marijuana on the land,” he said with disdain, urging the public to pay close attention to such reckless proposals.
He supported the PPP/C’s efforts to revitalize agriculture, especially for rice farmers, and praised the success of the government’s part-time jobs program. He pointed out that many beneficiaries of this initiative are women and homemakers, who now make significant contributions to their families and the wider community. Dr. Jagdeo warned that if the opposition returns to office, these jobs would be among the first to be cut. “And if APNU is to return, the part-time workers will immediately lose their jobs.”
Dr. Jagdeo highlighted significant improvements in infrastructure across Region Six, attributing these achievements to the governance of the PPP/C. “Without the PPP in office, there will be no four-lane road,” he declared. He assured supporters that the PPP/C plans to complete the high-span bridge over the Berbice River and build a four-lane highway from Moleson Creek to New Amsterdam. These are more than promises; they are projects already underway. “Had the PPP/C not been in office, these would not have been possible, as APNU would have continued to block Berbice. Only with a PPP/C government can this region move forward.”

As his speech neared its end, Dr. Jagdeo urged residents of Region Six to turn out in larger numbers than ever before. “The last elections, the region had 40,000 more. This election, I want to see more than 55,000.” He finished by emphasizing what truly sets the PPP/C apart: consistency, honesty, and vision. “Our party has grown because it is a trustworthy party. It does what it says, and it plans for the future.” Confident about what lies ahead, he added, “We have the clear plans for the future…”
His final message was to every supporter present — to stay vigilant, protect the PPP/C’s legacy, and fight for a better Guyana. “You matter, you have to defend this party, you have to defend its legacy, and you have to ensure that our children have a great future.”
At Albion, Dr. Jagdeo didn’t just rally a crowd; he ignited a movement. With proven accomplishments, a clear plan, and strong support from the people, the PPP/C enters this election not just prepared but unstoppable.
