From Rigging to Rambling: How Guyana’s Opposition Parties, PNC-AFC, Excels at Rigging Elections and Fails, While the PPP Fulfills All Promises Made in the 2020 Manifesto

By now, Guyanese across all regions have understood the political game. The opposition parties—whether hiding behind the mask of the PNC, concealing themselves behind the crumbling AFC, or emerging from nowhere like self-proclaimed saviors in WIN—have perfected the art of chaos, confusion, and violating the constitution. If they spent half as much time working for the people as they do plotting, rigging, and grandstanding, Guyana would be a utopia. Sadly, their contribution to national development is limited to one talent: how to fail spectacularly and blame others for it.

Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane—and hold your laughter, because the political comedy is real.

    PNC: Political Narcissists Club? (PNC)

The People’s National Congress (PNC) has a long history of rigging elections (Ask Geriatric Hamilton Green), suppressing freedoms, and turning economic crises into a national spectacle. From the Forbes Burnham dictatorship to their 2020 attempted democratic overthrow, the PNC has never let decency stand in the way of staying in power.

Who can forget March 2020? The entire world watched, jaws dropping, as PNC operatives and GECOM insiders tried to turn Guyana into a political circus. Fake spreadsheets, magic numbers appearing out of nowhere, and Mingo’s infamous tabulation “skills” that made primary school math look advanced. It took five months, a series of court battles, international observers, the determination of Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo for justice for the voters, and a strong warning from U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to David Granger to vacate the state house to finally accept what the ballot boxes already showed: PNC/AFC lost badly. Mr. Granger vacated the State House within 24 hours, and President Irfaan Ali was sworn in as the democratically elected President of Guyana.

But did they apologise? No. They doubled down. “We wuz robbed,” they cried, while refusing to denounce electoral fraud. That’s right, they tried to rig the election, failed, and then blamed the victims. Classic.

    AFC: Always Failing Consistently? (AFC)

Then we have the Alliance for Change, which should honestly rename itself to “Alliance for Collapse.” A party that was once seen as a fresh voice quickly became the sidekick in PNC’s dictatorship remake. The AFC’s most outstanding talent is selling out their voters, their dignity, and any hint of independence they once claimed.

Remember when they promised to hold PNC accountable? That didn’t last long. By the time they entered government in 2015, they became the “yes-men” of the coalition. Power is intoxicating, and the AFC drank deep. They embraced the gravy train, enjoyed the perks, and forgot the people who elected them.

And when it came time to negotiate seats again in 2020, they were so “strong” that PNC didn’t even bother giving them a meaningful say. Now, they’re on life support, and the only thing keeping them politically relevant is nostalgia and press conferences that no one watches.

    WIN: Who Invited Nobody? (WIN)

Enter stage left: the WIN party—a political group that believes Facebook likes equal national support, with Azruddin Mohamed leading (yes, the same individual sanctioned by the United States) for money laundering, gold smuggling, cocaine dealings with Colombian cartels, and invoice manipulation. WIN seems more like a desperate PR stunt than a legitimate political movement.

Mohamed, with all his bluster and poorly lit livestreams, wants us to believe he’s the new face of change. But if “change” means barging into Indigenous communities without permission, intimidating village leaders, and waving flags like a teenager at a dancehall party, then yes—he’s redefining what politics means.

And let’s not forget that Azruddin has been sanctioned for corruption by the U.S. But don’t worry, WIN supporters say it’s all a “misunderstanding.” Azruddin is deceiving voters by claiming the PPP government ordered the OFAC, FBI, and Homeland Security to sanction him. It is essential to clarify that no government in the world can dictate to OFAC, the FBI, or Homeland Security. These accusations against the PPP government come from Azruddin, who has no formal education and doesn’t even understand the word “Inflation.” Are the voters ready to support Azruddin Mohamed, a political illiterate?

The PPP/C: Results Over Rhetoric (PPP)

Now, compare the Opposition circus to the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C). Since taking office in August 2020, they’ve done something radical—they govern with dignity and respect for the people of Guyana. No drama, no election theft, no shady businessmen trying to buy influence. Just policies, programmes, and progress.

Under President Dr. Irfaan Ali, Prime Minister Mark Phillips, and Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, the PPP/C has performed in ways the opposition could only dream about:

    • 60,000+ jobs created across sectors.
    • Over 45,000 house lots distributed, giving ordinary Guyanese a real shot at homeownership.
    • Free University of Guyana tuition, restoring access to higher education.
    • 29,785 GOAL scholarships awarded so far—many to single mothers, Indigenous students, and low-income families.
    • Doubled the old age pension and restored the ‘Because We Care’ school grant.
    • Reinstated Joint Services bonuses, which the opposition happily scrapped during their reign.
    • Removed over 300 taxes imposed by APNU+AFC, including VAT on electricity, water, data, and education.
    • Free glasses for those who are in need.

While the opposition throws tantrums on social media, the PPP/C is building hospitals, roads, bridges, and new schools. And they’re doing it while managing the oil and gas sector responsibly—investing for long-term growth, not short-term votes.

    What Has the Opposition Done?

    Let’s summarize the opposition’s achievements since 2020:

    • Blamed America, Europe, the Caribbean, and the moon for their 2020 loss.
    • Refused to admit the election was fair (even after losing five court cases).
    • Whined about every PPP success while presenting no alternative policies.
    • Clung to figures like Azruddin Mohamed as their “last hope.”
    • Attacked national scholarship programmes, calling 39,000 GOAL scholars “goalless.”
    • Proposed giving every Guyanese $1 million, without explaining where the money would come from.
    • Said “sugar is dead” and that cannabis will save the country.
    • Aubrey Norton is trying to influence the 29.3% of Afro-Guyanese who believe they are ready to govern, while ignoring the 70% of Indo-Guyanese, Amerindians, and mixed-race voters. The only way Norton can win is by following the geriatric Hamilton Green, who publicly advocates that the PNC must rig the elections and keep the Indo-Guyanese “bastards and devils” and others away from power.

    Truly inspiring.

    PPP’s Governance Is the Difference

What makes the PPP/C different is not just their delivery—it’s the vision. The party understands that Guyana’s future rests not on slogans, but on substance. That’s why they’re rolling out:

    • A 12-hospital health expansion programme.
    • Massive infrastructure projects, including miles of highways.
    • Expansion of arable farmland by over 100,000 acres to boost food security.
    • Continued investment in the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS 2030) to ensure sustainability.
    • Wage increases for public servants, teachers, and security forces.

And they’re doing it without trampling democracy or turning Indigenous communities into political battlegrounds.

    Conclusion: Vote Builders, Not Buffoons

    So here’s the choice, Guyana:

    • Do you want a government that delivers housing, jobs, education, and dignity?

    Or

    • Do you want riggers of elections, ranting critics, and rogues?

Behind all the noise, the PPP/C is doing what needs to be done. The opposition, on the other hand, is doing what it always does: cry foul, break the law, rig the elections, and hope the voters forget.

But Guyanese haven’t forgotten. They remember 2015–2020, the tax burdens, the job cuts, the lies, and the attempted election theft. And they can see the difference.

So next time someone from the PNC, AFC, or WIN shows up with a promise and a flag, ask them one thing:

What exactly have you accomplished, besides failing spectacularly and attempting to steal power and continue to lie to the voters of Guyana?

In Guyana today, the PPP is building and improving the lives of citizens. In contrast, the Opposition parties are focused on political power, election rigging, and disregarding voter wishes.

    Looking Ahead

As the PPP/C prepares for its campaign launch, Dr. Jagdeo’s remarks clearly show that the party aims to win based on its record, not on symbolism, race, or promises that are disconnected from reality.

“We are not lazy,” Dr Jagdeo affirmed. “More is coming.”

With a platform rooted in delivery, discipline, and unity, the PPP/C is counting on the trust it has built over the past five years. And according to Jagdeo, that trust is increasing, particularly in communities where it was previously lacking.

The message is clear: while the opposition engages in political games, the PPP/C keeps focusing on the real work of building Guyana.

The voters have one choice to vote for PPP, which is ready to make Guyana great and offer new economic opportunities to all Guyanese, regardless of their ethnicity.
